No mere man – who could pull a moniker like that
off on a day-to-day basis? – Ed Zealous began as
an ordinary rock act before shedding that six-string
skin to become the full-throttle electronic group
we hear today. Making music that gets the party
started and undercutting it all with knowing,
acerbic lyrics, ‘Thanks A Million’ is an early calling
card. It will also introduce you to their fondness
for Casios. Recent single ‘Telepaths’ isn’t exactly
studio-slick, instead offering rough but welldeployed
synths over relentless beats. There’s a
Talking Heads debt – isn’t there always these days? – while more modern touchstones would include
TV On The Radio. Eliot James (Bloc Party, Two Door
Cinema Club) is on production for their debut
album, due to be released through Fierce Panda on
February 3.
