Currently based in Liverpool, Gemma Dunlovely
has become the go-to female vocalist for electronic
music-makers in Ireland over the past year or two.
You can instantly hear why, with her striking,
velvety cadence and dream-like tones elevating every track she lends her voice to. For evidence, listen
no further than the creeping, tip-toeing turn on
CLU’s ‘Moonrunner’, her repetitive, almost mantric
hook packing quite a punch. Her work with White
Collar Boy is also worth several dozen listens. More
recently, she teamed up with producer Unknown
for the downcast dance track ‘I Cry’, Dunlovely’s
tender lines fitting the rain-drenched mood perfectly.
You can throw out all the adjectives you want, but
her quality is almost an intangible thing and all the
better for it. Not that she’s just some siren for hire.
A solo performer in her own right, we look forward
to hearing Dunlovely develop her own unique
sound. Until then, head for youtube.com/user/
gemmadunlovelymusic and pore over her covers.
