The teens are taking over the country. This year’s
model is 17-year-old Niamh Crowther. Part of the
winning Meath team at the Irish Youth Music
Awards 2011, she was chosen to front it last year
and led them to another victory. Crowther is now
spreading her wings and flying solo, with a number
of gigs under her belt including the Le Cheile Arts &
Music Festival last August. An acoustic guitar is her
weapon of choice, with a strong emphasis placed
on the words. How might she distinguish herself
from the rest of the sensitive, acoustic troubadour
pack? Well, she's already fended off 15,000 other
youngsters for her IYMA 2013 victory, and her cover
of Pugwash’s ‘To The Warmth Of You’ from The
Olympus Sound showcases a high-flying voice and
some proper musical appreciation. If she takes pop
songwriting tips from Thomas Walsh, she’ll be right
as rain. Now, just to get that pesky Leaving Cert out of the way…
