Not that you should believe everything you see on
YouTube, but it would appear that Sisters are a band
that like to mix their ice-cream cones with alcohol
and have a fire pole in their new digs. Three sisters
(though only one is a lady) hailing from the southwest,
Andrew, Aoife and Nile are now based in
London. Lucky London. Combining an obvious love
for pop with a lo-fi, slightly shambolic approach,
most of their tracks could have fallen straight onto
the famous C86 tape that made indie stars of the
likes of The Wedding Present. With their boy-girl
vocals, they most immediately recall The Pastels,
roughed up a bit and stripped of overt tweeness.
Elsewhere, the guitars on ‘Sun Walk’ sound a little
like My Bloody Valentine played through a tiny,
clapped speaker. ‘Clearhead’ is their first single,
released on Gravy last summer, and provided us
with the aforementioned YouTube moment. It
showcases a trio unafraid to lark about, interested
in little other than their noise-pop wonders. They
also went down a storm at Brighton’s Great Escape.
More Irish dates, please!
