The past couple of years have been a glorious time
for psychedelia nuts worldwide (if they’ve been
lucid enough to notice) and finally that tie-dye
wave is crashing onto Irish shores. Always a groovy
spot, like, The People’s Republic has taken the
nu-psych renaissance on board and made it their
own. Standard-bearers are The Altered Hours,
who must have caught the attention of The Brian
Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe – also of
Dig! infamy – as their Sweet Jelly Roll EP was released
on his A Recordings. Last year, they became the first
Cork band in four years to play Live At The Marquee
when they supported Bell X1. Now that’s a trippy
coupling. When they’re not playing at home, in
Germany, or UK gigs like the Liverpool Psych Fest,
you might find The Altered Hours in their Cracks In
The Light studio, a reclaimed government building.
