They're named for the slangy military acronym
BOHICA – short for 'Bend Over, It's Coming Again'.
Appropriately, the Essex four-piece's sound is blunt
and intense, driven by a stark motorik groove
and barbed-wire guitars. Formulaic on paper, in
actuality their sound hits you like a smack on the
nose: single 'XXX' is cranked up and beyond catchy,
while the accompanying video, a mini-drama that
turns increasingly NSFW, lays out the breadth of
their ambition. As his very Irish name suggests,
frontman Dominic McGuinness has roots in the
old country, with his family from Limavady, Co
Derry, and much of his childhood spent there.
Signed to Domino – Dominic's singer-songwriter
brother Eugene is already on the label – one of their first gigs was supporting Franz Ferdinand in
Ibiza. A baptism that attests to Domino's dizzying
hopes for the quartet.
